Tailgate Extravaganza

By Frank Vitiello 9/2/15

Close your eyes. Dream of an empty football stadium. Now dream that the stands are filled with your friends and the field is sprawling with a winning football team rocking black and gold. Not good enough yet? How about endless food and a few carnival games here and there? Good news, this isn’t a dream and all these things are yours to enjoy at Clark’s tailgate. One of the many things that gets students into the school spirit and brings out Charger Pride in everyone.

Tailgate at Clark is quite the experience and a memorable event for many. Tailgate takes place the day of the Clark Homecoming game to get everyone pumped and excited about the game. In the cafeteria around 3 o’clock, all the clubs set up tables with festive, fun carnival games and others lay out irresistible finger foods to stuff your face with.

Some are lured by the warm scent of sweet churros or the all too familiar nostalgia of movie theatre popcorn. If food just doesn’t do it for you (if that’s at all possible), there’s plenty of unavoidable activities at tailgate.

In between salty snacks and treats, some choose to pie their favorite teachers out in the quad, show off their skills in the Just Dance competition or bribe ROTC to lock up their friends while they watch them do pushups as payment. Everywhere you turn, there’s something fun and exciting happening at tailgate.

The word on the street is that there is going to be some new and fresh things to this year’s tailgate. With more clubs and even more talk about the pregame festivities, there’s sure to be even more food and additional games to enjoy with friends. Who can complain! There are rumors that student council will be bringing the beloved grill out this year for hot dogs and burgers, perfect football munchies.

Students have quite a bit to say about tailgate.

“It’s going to be hyped, everyone be ready for ROTC at tailgate this year,” says Gabriel Tekabe, ROTC Commanding Officer.

“I love food as much as the next person, but the whole Charger Pride feeling is what I like the most at tailgate,” says Marcy Moncravie, junior class president.

The expectations are definitely high for tailgate this year. Everyone is looking forward to see what’s in store this time around. Football fan or not, the tailgate experience is a must for any Charger. Just when you thought fun times with friends, awesome food and good football was only in your dreams, it’s actually at Clark’s tailgate this year.
