Clark High School possesses an abundance of prestigious and meritorious clubs and organizations. Home of the Navy JROTC program, Clark’s very own JROTC program has continuously become the best in state. As each successful year passes by, so do the leaders. One in particular is in charge of the whole battalion of cadets in the unit, the Commander (CO).

This school year, Cadet Commander Taylor Jorgensen has continued the legacy of Clark’s JROTC program. Cadets interviewed provided positive remarks about CO.

What type of leader is CO?

Cadet Ivan DeAnda: I think she’s a very positive Cadet Commander. She knows how to lead and inspire 300+ cadets.

Does she demonstrate the qualities of a great leader?

Cadet David Velasquez: Yes. She acknowledges the objectives needed to succeed as a unit.

Does CO inspire you?

Cadet Gabriel Camacho: Yes, she is our CO for a reason. She is a great leader, works hard, and sets the example to all the other cadets in the unit. She motivates cadets to work diligently and to be express professionalism just as she does.

When chosen to be CO how did you feel?

Jorgensen: It was very intimidating, but I was so excited. I felt like all my hard work had culminated into this opportunity.

As the CO, what leadership traits do you demonstrate each day?

Jorgensen: I make sure to demonstrate ethical behavior and I always present my best self to set the example, in and out of ROTC.

Why did you join ROTC?

Jorgensen: In all honesty, I joined to follow a friend, but I am glad I did.

What are some of the tasks designated as CO?

Jorgensen: I oversee my ROTC staff, and make sure all of the responsibilities and jobs are accomplished. I also serve as the figurehead of our unit.

Upon joining ROTC how did you feel initially?

Jorgensen: I was incredibly motivated to be the best. I am a very competitive person.

How was your first uniform inspection how did you feel?

Jorgensen: It went well, but I remember being so nervous that my hands were shaking.

After graduation in June 2015, what will you miss the most about ROTC?

Jorgensen: I will miss all of the people I got the opportunity to meet and lead. Especially the instructors, the cadets, and the position of being Cadet Commander.

What are your goals or plans after high school?

Jorgensen: I plan to study psychology, then go to law school. My dream is to serve on the Supreme Court as a Court Justice.
