National Honor Society Inductions

You might know John Vincent Parin. If not, you’ve probably heard him; he is the voice on the morning announcements almost every day. Among his other achievements, Parin is also NHS (National Honor Society) President.
Parin is president of one of Clark’s largest organizations for the 2013-2014 school year. Ms. Davis and Ms. Ganier were the advisors this year.
Each Wednesday dozens of students gather for a meeting. There are so many students that even the floor is often filled with attendees.
After completing the necessary requirements for National Honor Society including over thirty hours of service and an independent service project, hundreds of students gathered to be inducted on Friday, May 9.
In addition to being inducted during the ceremony, the passing of the torch occurred as the 2013-2014 officer team renounced their positions to the incoming 2014-2015 officer team.
John Vincent Parin will be succeeded by Britini Teresi for the role of President, Simon Zhu will be succeeded by Brian Gee for the role of Vice President, Guan-En Graham will be succeeded by Irene Li for the role of Secretary, Winnie Xin will be succeeded by Christian Ong for the role of Treasurer, and Florence Kong will be succeeded by Heidi Kim for the role of Historian.
Furthermore, several students also received some special well-deserved recognition among the one hundred plus inductees.
Annie Lu and Peter Hernandez received the Freshman Awards for excelling in National Honor Society among their class. Despite being new inductees, both have actively led and participated in events throughout the school year.
Andrea Busicescu received the award for best Independent Service Project raising well over seven thousand dollars for her church to help the community.
Busicescu explains how the donation will be used “in order to fund various projects that work to help the community.” She says, “although it was a lot of work, in the end it was worth it because it felt amazing to be able to contribute so much.”
In addition, Abby Miller and Deepal Patel won the Junior Awards for excelling in National Honor Society among their class. Both have actively participated in the club this year.
“I wasn’t expecting an award at all so it was nice to be recognized for all the effort I’ve spent for National Honor Society,” Miller says, a regular attendee at service events.
Furthermore, the award for most volunteer hours was given to Armen Paningbatan, who served well over double the requirement of hours.
Finally, the senior awards were given to Cynthia Castellanos and Shawn Barnes, both of whom regularly excelled in National Honor Society this year.
A popular, annual event, this year’s Induction Ceremony recognized the special achievements by all the inductees who were able to represent Clark National Honor Society this year. Among the special awards, the new officers also received recognition and outlined their goals for the coming year.
We hope to have more students this coming fall and welcome all to help volunteer for the community, while having a good time.
