Honor Bound to Defend Freedom Across The Globe

By Kevin Steven Rodas 2/25/15

Numerous students are anticipating their college acceptance letters. Nervously awaiting for a life changing transition into adulthood. However out of the multitude of students venturing into college, very few are embarking on the journey of a lifetime. The few and the proud are entering into the military.

For society, the military is just a bunch of gunslinging and violence. Despite having that reputation, it is more than just violence and shooting.

The military is an enormous commitment. Forged by our forefathers the United States military has protected Americans from various threats for over 200 years. Those who join have the option to fight in combat roles, especially those in the Army and Marine Corps. The other 3 branches (Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard) have more technical tasks for those who enlist in their ranks. Therefore, it is your choice whether or not you want to fight.

“Honestly, I never even considered the military as an option until a couple months ago. I decided to join when I was informed about the Navy. I saw it as an opportunity to experience something new that will allow me to set up a stable future for myself,” replied Future Sailor Joanna Medina.

The military will present a multitude of benefits to make your future secure. It is not only about engaging enemies face to face. For instance, you can be a nurse or engineer and never have to fight. While in the military, young men and women will acquire skills that can transition into civilian life. College credits from the career chosen in the military will be bestowed, college will be paid for, journeying the vast globe for free is a bonus, and getting a competitive edge afterwards serving are some of the several benefits.

Indeed there are exceptional advantages in the military. Despite that, individuals who join will encounter a few challenges in order to receive those benefits especially those who were not in JROTC or other military based organizations. Bootcamp is the stepping stone, in it recruits will learn military marching, discipline, how to operate a weapon, memorize military knowledge and regulations, and most importantly exercise. The leaders in charge will not be friendly or compassionate, however it is similar to being scolded by your parents.

“My goal is to become a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. It would be the greatest honor to serve this nation and dedicate my life to leading men and women who protect our country. Within the military I will work in the finance department and then transition my skills into the civilian world,” exclaimed Cadet Gabriel Guerrero from NJROTC.

At the end, of bootcamp you will commence your journey and gallantly serve the greatest nation in the world. Not only will you be rewarded for your service, you will also generate countless happy lives around the world. Whether officer or enlisted, Sailor, Soldier, Marine, or Air Men, we are all on the same team. Godbless all members of the armed forces and godbless America.
