Student body president, Dayna Tanaka, said, “Campaigning encourages school spirit and boosts the school royalty. It allows the nominees to have more pride. With the campaigning, I don’t think nominees will win based on popularity this year. I think the votes will end up being pretty close.”
With nominees vying to be crowned with the title, it’ll take more than just a popular vote to win. Nominees will have to work hard to put their names out and to give reasons on why students should vote for them.
Campaigning may also encourage more participation from the student body. It encourages more students to vote on the nominees that based on their campaigning methods.
Students were nominated by their clubs. For students who are in two or more clubs, they may have to split the votes, which could affect their chances of being selected.
On October 7th, the nominees will be announced during eighth period over the announcements.
The campaigning period is set to start on October 7th and will be end on the 11th.
Nominees will only be allowed to campaign verbally and by social media through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Any other sort of campaigning method will result in disqualification.
In the first round, the top twenty-five students will be chosen before elimination down to the top ten in the second round. The final round will consist of the top four from each class, which will be the homecoming court.
The kings and queens for the freshmen, sophomore, and junior classes will be announced during the homecoming assembly next Friday.
The homecoming king and queen of the senior class will be revealed at the homecoming game.
Senior, Ryan Lim, said, “It’ll be a great race. Since it’s our first year campaigning for our kings and queens, it’ll be interesting to see how it’ll impact the results.”
“We have some stellar kids this year. It’ll be a battle,” said Tanaka.
Chargers can participate in the battle for the best by voting for their favorite nominee to the homecoming court on October 1st or 3rd during first or second lunch.
Homecoming events and preparations are nearing. It’s time to nominate and vote for our class kings and queens. For the first time, our homecoming nominees will be campaigning to win for the title.
