Fear The Stampede-- Clark Women’s Basketball

By Bobbie Flyod 1/22/15

Clark’s girls basketball team was in a downfall. Losing two key players was something any regional runner-up team would be dreading. Without a starting point guard and a starting small forward Coach Michael Moulchin had a lot of work to do.

“I came to this school starting all freshman and I feel as though this year could possibly be the same. We lost the our starting point guard and a strong defensive player,” said Mouchlin.

Bria Belser, state leading assist continued basketball and is currently playing in Arizona has graduated. Johnice Bland was second in rebounding in the team and lead the team in steals graduated as well.

Last year, Clark’s women’s basketball team took a hard loss to Boulder City during the semi-finals before the state tournament.

“I remember, we were up at half-time and then something happened in the locker room and we ended up losing,” says senior Shyanne Carter-Wade.

“We put in a great offensive game with the assistance of Coach Andre Hanley. We also have a killer defense that makes the opponent second guess the passes and shots they take,” says Moulchin.

Currently Clark girls are 1-1 in conference. They started with a great season opener against the Pahrump Valley Trojans but fell short against the Spring Valley Grizzlies.

“We have a lot to work on as a team. We are still missing a player due to grades but we are adjusting with what we have,” says Coach Hanley. “We constantly change the starting line to see who fits in with who and we work from there.”

“We have two four-year returning seniors who have been on Varsity for all four years,” says Coach Moulchin. “(Bobbi) Floyd and (Shyanne) Carter-Wade have been together since both of their freshman years and they are our captains. They’ve created good chemistry because they also do other sports together. I’ve been able to watch them grow.

Shyanne Carter-Wade, a multi-talented student, has played four years of varsity basketball, four years of varsity track and two years of varsity volleyball. Bobbi Floyd, a Delaware State commit, has done the same.

Starting the new year of 2015, the Charger’s have many games.

“Before we break out coach has us say a chant-- ONE MIND. ONE BODY. ONE TEAM. That’s what we are, its a lot of our senior years and we have to make our mark,” says Carter-Wade.

Good Luck Ladies.

I want this year to be different.

-Head Coach Moulchin
