Clark Senior, Diontae Jones, Accepts Scholarship to University Of Wyoming

By Bobbie Floyd 11-26-13

You cannot miss him walking through the hallway. At six feet five inches, he and his teammates are a bunch of trees. Diontae Jones is the main target and college prospect in the class of 2014.

With his senior basketball season right around the corner, Diontae Jones is ready in action.“

This year I feel like there is going to be a lot of expectations on me being a leader and an upper-class man,” says Jones.

Jones plans on becoming a more polished player.

According to Diontae, last year’s heartbreaking state championship loss hurt him so much.

He [Jones] is a role model to a lot of players in our group,” said Coach Chad Beeten. “He has matured a lot over the years.”

“I am not perfect, my jump shot doesn’t always fall, my attitude isn’t always at its best and I need to pick up my defense,” says Diontae. “To fix my weaknesses I am planning to continue playing basketball.”

Diontae expects to continue his basketball career at Wyoming, which he selected over another full scholarship to the University of Santa Barbara.

According to Diontae, he knew right when he left Wyoming that that was the place for him, so when he went off and called his coach, the coach cancelled the trip to University of Santa Barbara.

When asked how he felt about the team this year, he answered with a laugh, “My team is more than my team; they are family. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. My parents push me a lot into getting better and not giving up, and so do the coaches, but my teammates are my top motivators. Not just varsity but the rest of them as well.”

For some students at Clark, an addiction isn’t really a bad thing.

"It is way more than a game, once you begin to play it, you cannot stop— it’s my life,” says highly touted basketball recruit, Diontae Jones.I'm a paragraph.
