Prom in 5 Steps
By Andrew Cruz 04/17/15
It’s that time of year again; everyone is getting hyped up for prom, no one has a clue about how to ask their significant other or just other, and it is getting close to Prom season. If you feel that I just described you, here are 5 simple steps to help you secure a prom date.
-
1. First you have to find a target. By target, I mean someone who you really want to ask. Don’t worry if she’s “out of your league” or “she’s too good for me,” because in reality, you are probably a nice guy, right? Well, hopefully.

2. Once you are sure that you have found the right person to ask, try talking to her. Most likely you have a twitter or a Facebook. Add them on Facebook and message them or follow them on Twitter and DM them so you can get to know them better. Honestly, once you get past this part, the rest comes on its own.

3. I lied. This is probably the hardest part of this process. Now it is time to find the 5 W’s of the proposal. The “who, what, where, why, and when.” You already have the “who.” The “what” should be what you’re going to base your “Promposal” on. For example, if the girl is really fond of the movie “Up,” make a poster with the punch line “Will you fly Up with me to prom,” with a bunch of balloons accompanying the poster. This is just one example of many, and let your imagination fly high so you can make it original and unique.

The “when” and “where” part is always a hard part of this process as well. Finding the “right” time may be hard for any person, so make sure to know the schedule of the person you are asking so you can fit in during lunch or maybe after school some time. Based on the girl, she may want you to do it privately or in public, so make sure to ask one of her close friends which one she prefers. For example, the cafeteria would be a great place to do it in public, or when you two are alone sometime in private. Finally, the “why.” To answer this question, you must look deep within yourself and make sure to confirm why you are doing this. If the answer is “I want to have a fun and special night with this person and my friends,” then you are ready to move on.

4. Now that you are done with planning, it is finally time to move on with the plan. You may want to want some motivational and inspirational videos on Youtube, as they will help you build up the courage to do it, but all in all, you can do this, no matter who you are. Maybe listen to “Eye of the Tiger,” a few times before to really hype you up. Once you are ready, move on. Make sure to have someone video tape it so that you can remember this moment for your whole life, even if it will be really embarrassing. Don’t worry, I know you got this.

5. She said yes! Now it is time to prepare for prom itself. Make sure you buy the prom tickets early (they go on sale this Friday for $25, and go up $5 everyday), so you can get them for cheap and save some money. You also need to make sure that you find a place to take pictures, you match with what dress she is wearing, and you brush your teeth. Good hygiene needs to be displayed every day, but this night is especially important to remember. Once you handle the final planning, it is now time to attend prom. Be sure to have a fun time and remember, she said yes to you, so don’t forget to dance with her at prom!
If you follow these 5 steps, I am sure that you will have a great time at Prom this year whether it is your first or last, make it a grand time!
