Behind the scenes of a Memorable Book

By Esmeralda Lopez-Garcia 11-12-13

Abraham Sanchez, a publications II student says, “Publications is about being a part of a team, so we can create a yearbook that everyone could remember.”

His main job is handling the sports section in the yearbook, assembling it and giving it a nice design. When given the opportunity, Abraham takes his own pictures.

“I enjoy publications a lot, my favorite part is actually creating the book itself and being able to say I created that page,” says Abraham. “It’s kind of like creating my own portfolio.”

Wondering how easy and fun creating the yearbook must be I couldn’t resist asking what the most difficult part is when putting everything together.

The most difficult part Abraham found, after giving it some time, was the interviewing. Publication students struggle with asking the right questions to get the right responses back.

“We have to find the right quotes to insert into the yearbook,” adds Abraham.

With every picture in the yearbook, we have a photographer behind it, and in this case, it would be Emanuel Marcano.

Emanuel is the one who mainly focuses on pictures. He is often seen walking around with a camera dangling around his neck.

“I enjoy taking pictures of moments that are memorable and intriguing to students and staff,” Emanuel adds very joyfully. Ms.Teller prefers action shots, not still shots (pictures of those posing).

“But action shots can be very difficult to capture,” says Emmanuel. “They either come out perfect or blurry, it’s all luck.”

Coming back to Ms.Teller, the one making all this possible, she reveals some interesting information on what to expect this year from the yearbook.

With a smile on her face, she says, “There will be a nice surprise on the cover. Something different from what we’ve had in a really long time, I don’t want to give too much away.”

You can buy the yearbook online at Jostens.com or the school bank for 75 dollars. It is best to buy now before prices go up. After April, the book will be available for 85.

There is a hardworking team and a very proud one behind a book we all hope to get a hold of by the end of the year. Ms.Teller, the head of publications, creates the very book that catches attention when brought up: the yearbook.
