5 Things to do During No-School November
by Holly Wong 11/19/15
It’s that time of year again - everyone’s favorite month of long weekends and holidays.
This year, there is no school on 10/30, 11/2, 11/3, 11/11, 11/26, and 11/27. The students are already planning out their “vacations” for the upcoming three-five day weekends.
Here are a few ways you can spice up the beginning of the fall season.
1. Drink something hot.
Since it’s getting cold, drinking or eating something hot will warm up your body.
Starbucks’s pumpkin spice latte, peppermint mocha, caramel brûlée, and chestnut praline are featured back on the menu, making a grand comeback for the season. These fall and winter drinks will get you in a spirited mood to welcome the cold weather.
Also, don't miss out on the buy-one-get-one-free special from 3pm-5pm starting November 12 to November 15.
Even Clark’s student council features a giant, creamy starbucks drink on the hallway. By the way, Stu-Co did a great job on the hall decorations, like always!
2. Eat something hot.
Something not a lot of people know about is hot pot.
Hot pot is a unique Asian-style way of cooking things in a boiling soup. A lot of people think cooking your own food defeats the whole purpose of eating out, but Asians love cooking their own food because it's more fun.
Typical foods to cook in a hot pot are meat, especially beef because it cooks in less than ten seconds, vegetables, and seafood.
Hot pot is the perfect meal to have with a group of friends or family to warm up during this cold season and break.
3. Go ice skating.
Ironic, but still creates a winter-y vibe for the snowless city of Las Vegas.
Starting from November 21, the Cosmopolitan will be opening their ice skating rink to the public, and Nevada residents get a discount. This ice rink, unlike most other rinks in Vegas, is outdoors and will have an even more festive spirit.
Although it’s cold, there's no better way to celebrate winter than to embrace it by ice skating outdoors.
4. Go to Mount Charleston.
To experience a more authentic winter, go up to Mount Charleston withers ends and family. Don't count on snow falling in Las Vegas. You might as well go up to Mount Charleston to play in the abundance of snow. Sledding, having snowball fights, making snow angels, skiing, and snowboarding are just some of the endless activities of taking a vacation in the snowy mountains.
5. Stay home.
If you’re not an outdoors type of person, just stay home, cuddle up in your warm blanket, and watch Netflix.
Everybody knows that Christmas starts in November. Netflix offers classic Christmas movies such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Scrooged.
ABC is also starting to show Christmas movies towards the end of November. Make sure to catch up all your favorite Christmas movies.
